Luka's Maths Learning Story

Luka’s Maths  Learning Story Term 4 2019


How do we solve a problem as a group? 

Imagine this world with ount maths.

Eluama’s family in Tokelau tell him to get some coconuts. He climbs three different coconut trees.

He climbed 3.06m up the first tree, 3.97m up the second tree and 2.57m up the third tree. 

His friend climbed 3 different trees. The first one he climbed was 2.97m, the second one he climbed was 3.08m and the third one he climbed was 4.32m. 

Which of them did the most climbing that day?

First I am going to do 3x3.08=?  3X4.32=? 3X2.97=?  
But at the same time I didn't know how to multiply decimals or fractions.
So I wanted to look for other ways to solve this problem. The reason why I multiplied all of those wher because I thought It would be easier for me because I am multiplying the meters they climbed to how many trees they climbed witch wher 3 trees.

I haven't solved the problem but I know what I need to work on witch is knowing how to multiplying decimals and fractions.

I was good at looking for ways to solve the problem even do I have not solved it.  
I want you to know that I am good at
asking questions that could challenge myself because 
I know that Icould go further with the learning. 

I am also good at
sparking my ideas because
that is also something that can make my learning go further.
The key competency I use well

was thinking because I think of choices that make me get my work done.

I want you to know that I
need to work on finding out how
to multiplying decimals and fractions because I could get another
problem that I need
to use multiplying by decimals or fractions.

 I want you to know that I find it hard to multiply decimals and fractions.

Luka’s Digital Technology  Learning Story

How do we create a product to solve a problem ?
Just because something didn't do as you planned doesn't mean its useless.’’

During our digital tech time we have been using different tools.

The tool that I have been using the most is spheros because
I think that I learnt lots of  new things, like how to make it move around by writing and using a coding
to control where the sphero goes like going over a jump or through a tunnel . 

I want you to know that I was
good at looking for new ways to use this tool because I haven't used it before.
The key competency I used well was managing self because I have never got carried away with the sphero.
I know that some people got carried away with them by mucking around with it.

I want you to know that I need
to work on knowing a bit more about the sphero so I know what to press next time
or what to do.

Luka’s Reading Learning Story
Term 3 2019

“How do we  make meaning from our library book?”

Once you learn to read you will be forever free.

Ricky was a foster kid who was sent to live with Aunt Bella and Uncle Hec on the west coast. Auntie died and CYP’S tried to take Ricky to the social welfare so he and his uncle Hec ran away. This book was made into a movie called “Hunt for the wilder people.”
When I choose a library book I look for books that I think
that I can enjoy and a book that could satisfy me to read it.

I like reading books about people on adventures and books
about sports.


           My book is called  Wild pork and Watercress.
           It is fiction but based on his life story.
It’s purpose is to challenge our thinking about what is family, and why cyfs take kids away from families. Its also makes the reader feel sad and some bits a really funny.
I located information so I found out that during hard times family will do anything to stay together.

Luka's Writing learning story

Luka’s writing Learning story.


Thousands of people crowded in a special place where all the magic happens! 


I look out and I see thousands of families waiting for their kids to get on that stage and sing their hearts out.


As we are sitting, waiting to go on I hear one of the teachers say 1 more minute until senior samoan group are on. 


Then my heart drops like a bomb!!
Walking on the stage I see all the happy faces in the crowed but for some reason I get goose bumps.


I'm walking on the stage with a big smile on my face but a flock of butterflies in my rumbling tummy.
As we perform I’m sweating with fear like I got put in to jail.


Before I know i'm walking off with a smile that will never come off my face. I look over my red firing shoulder and I see families cheering like maniacs.  


I was good at coming up with words that could make my reader feel like they wher in the story at the time.
I need to work not adding those words that will kind of make the reader feel like they weren't in the story because it makes them kind of go off track.
